I wish his next executive assistant all the luck in the world (she'll need it) and if my boss should need me to do anything over the next two weeks, kindly tell him that he can do it goddamn self. This was a VERY EASY decision to make, as the past two years have been utterly miserable. I am writing this letter to formally announce my resignation from Parker International (& the arrogant, condescending CEO) effective two weeks from today. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Kayla and Ellie are likeable and easy to root for, and it was satisfying to see how their lives intertwined at the end.Īs for the inclusion of the SCOPE project as a central plot point, I'm happy this aspect of American history has been brought to my attention. ![]() Typically dual-timeline narratives have one treasure and one turd, but I found both women’s stories equally compelling. The goal was to recruit white college students to help prepare Black Americans for voting and to maintain pressure on Congress to pass what became the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The Summer Community Organization and Political Education project was a voter registration civil rights initiative conducted in six southern states. The contemporary story features a young grieving widow, Kayla, piecing together a new life for herself and her daughter, and the historical story focuses on a 20-year-old white woman, Ellie, in 1965 who goes against her family’s wishes to dedicate her time to SCOPE. In true Chamberlain fashion, The Last House on the Street is a dual-timeline narrative set in North Carolina. I just NEEDED it to be so good that I was scared to read it.įortunately, it is good. I set it aside and read dozens of others ahead of it. I did that with her latest, The Last House on the Street, but then a weird thing happened. When I get my hands on one of her books, I spin around in circles like Snoopy doing a happy dance. Her storytelling has the power to sweep me away, completely. ![]() ![]() ![]() In 2004, he was honored with the Bram Stoker Award for his novella The Turtle Boy. Tristan decides to run away from home to find Adele so that he can get some answers about why he feels this way when he is close to her, but ends up becoming involved in something bigger than he could’ve imagined. ![]() On a visit to the Moon Realm, he passes by the prison that Adele is in and they both feel pain when they meet eyes. Tristan is the son of the corrupt President, yet he does not share his father’s views on how the Tri-Realms should be ruled. She is sentenced to life in prison, where she makes friends with two fellow prisoners who decide to help her escape. Adele is a 17-year-old Moon Dweller whose parents were convicted of being traitors. This led to the creation of the Tri-Realms, which consist of the rich and powerful Sun Dwellers, the middle class Moon Dwellers, and the poor and destitute Star Dwellers. ![]() The Moon Dwellers is a post-apocalyptic story in which destruction on Earth led people to dig caverns underground in order to rebuild society under the surface. ![]() ![]() ![]() Peter struggles with dark thoughts: his own and the symbiote’s… And even then, the stress seems to be making him a bit edgy. Our hero is unraveling mentally, and the only respite he seems to get is when he puts his newly acquired duds on and goes out superheroing. His aunt isn’t speaking to him, his girlfriend can’t cope with his double life and he’s having feverish nightmares more frequently all the time. We meet a younger Peter at a time when his life is moreso in shambles than usual. This book delves into Peter Parker’s time wearing the Black symbiote costume after the Secret Wars (the first one) and ponders what would happen if he’d kept wearing it and leaned into some of his nastiest instincts. Spider-Man: Spider’s Shadow is a pretty entertaining throwback to the good old What If days. Sure, we have the occasional Big Two multiversal hijinks becoming more common all the time, but that’s nothing compared to a good old fashioned look at what could have happened at key points in Marvel history.
